Do you have the right mat for your yoga practice? If you have ever completed an exercise routine on a hardwood or tile floor, you probably have a pretty good idea regarding how uncomfortable and difficult it can become to sit, kneel or complete Pilates or yoga exercises. For all of these activities, you can reap great benefits from purchasing the right exercise mat, which is responsible for providing both traction and support. Unfortunately, not all exercise mats are created equal and the wrong exercise mat may actually hamper your workout efforts, or hurt your body. There are a variety of different exercise mats available in gyms, but many people prefer to use their own mat. New mats range in price from around $20 to $50 depending on the type that you purchase.

If you are looking for a mat for yoga practice, your best bet is a sticky mat which is intended to provide a non-slip, thinly-cushioned surface. These mats work best on smooth surfaces, even though they only supply a small amount of padding. Yoga mats do not cushion your body well for regular fitness, but they work wonders when it comes to yoga practice as they allow you to better hold your poses. The sticky surface of the yoga mat makes it possible for the mat to stay put on the floor, and it will also make it easier for you stick to the mat. This way, you are not sliding around on the floor when trying to hold a particularly difficult pose. Basic yoga mats are inexpensive and easy to clean, and most roll up easily for portability and storage. You can also find yoga mats that are personalized, extra thick or decorated, which may cost a little more but are generally worth the investment. There are also environmentally friendly yoga mats which are comprised of recycled, biodegradable or natural materials, which may require a little bit of an investment but which are well worth the price.

There are a wide variety of different exercise mats available to you, but choosing the right one is the only way that you are going to get the most out of your workout. Online retailers, sporting goods stores, and even general retail stores all offer a variety of different yoga mats. Choosing the right one will benefit your health and well being and may even make your workout significantly more effective. If you are going to use a mat for your yoga workout, choosing the right mat for the job is the best thing that you can do.
