If you are interested in getting involved in Yoga the best idea is to choose the type you may be interested in, the type of yoga that suits your needs best. The following is information on the various styles and an overview of their benefits.
For most people who may be just beginning to practice yoga, classes in Hatha or Vinyasa are both terrific starting points. Hatha is a very broad-spectrum name that can include many of the physical styles of yoga. If a class is described as Hatha style, it is in all probability going to be slow-paced and calm and offer a good quality introduction to the fundamental yoga poses. Like Hatha, Vinyasa is a broad-spectrum term that is used to describe various different styles of yoga classes. Vinyasa, which means breath-synchronized movement, tends to be a more energetic style founded on the performance of a sequence of poses called Sun Salutations. In yoga practice the Sun Salutations are essential and they are performed in a way in which movement is matched to the breath to maximize the benefits of each daily class or practice.
A Vinyasa class will characteristically begin with a variety of Sun Salutations to warm up one’s body for further intense stretching that’s usually accomplished at the closing stages of a class. Both Hatha and Vinyasa are great ways to test the waters of yoga and both offer a myriad of benefits. Another wonderful way to begin practicing is to blend yoga styles and classes; using Hatha to help one achieve calm and relaxation on the more stressful days in one’s busy life and also using Viyasa to strengthen and rejuvenate in a more vigorous way on days when one feels tired or lethargic.
Of course, when one is comfortable with these styles of yoga there are a myriad of other options for classes. You may want to try Power Yoga for toning or the extremely popular Bikram (also known as Hot Yoga) to heat up and energize you body. You will find that these classes are not only explained in more detail but they also provide easily accessed information on finding all styles of yoga classes in one’s own area.
