Many North Americans haven’t considered fitting yoga into a busy schedule and yet yoga practice may be the healthy component missing in a hectic lifestyle. While it seems counterproductive to add more into our date books, making an appointment to get to a yoga studio could relieve much of the stress one carries from the office into the home every day.  Finding a studio with classes to fit your schedule is as easy as logging onto sites such as YogaInformer.com and finding a perfect match in a nearby yoga studio that offers your skill level and an environment in which you are comfortable.

Along with the physical practice, many yoga enthusiasts champion healthy eating as well as meditation so often associated with yogis. On a bodily level, yoga goes further than just toning and strengthening muscles. Standing postures strengthen the spine and remedy problems that may be experienced with structural alignment. Stretching and rotating maneuvers may massage the internal organs and frontward bending has been thought to lower blood pressure and ease the nervous system. The upturned poses have long been believed to purify the lymphatic system.

Stress relief and reduction occurs on both mental and physical levels as Yoga postures and breathing systems support and balance the immune, hormonal, digestive and nervous systems. Yoga also advances one’s mental state, as it enhances natural levels of concentration, fosters self-esteem, and helps one to manage the effects of a stressful lifestyle in a constructive manner.

The intellectual and emotional improvements are wide ranging and include clarity of mind, superior awareness, improved concentration and focus, a more optimistic attitude, with a reduction of mood swings, improved self esteem, and an overall achievement of the reduction of stress. Amongst those practicing Yoga it is often believed that when the body and mind are harmonized, a spiritual element is realized; this spiritual benefit of yoga not only reduces one’s stress but also offers further benefits to one’s life through improved intuition, a deeper understanding within, a natural opening of the heart, a feeling of greater love and compassion for oneself and for others and a connection to the universe.

While each individual may experience the benefits of yoga in a different way, it is clear that yoga offers a healthy aspect to anyone’s life as long as we make time for it in our busy lives.
