One of the greatest features offered by yoga is the fact that no specialized equipment is necessary in order to reap all of the greatest health benefits. Yoga is traditionally practiced with bare feet, so specialized shoes are not needed. And if you are working out on carpeting or another soft floor, you do not even need a mat to exercise on. However, this does not mean that you cannot incorporate additional equipment into your yoga practice if you choose to. Many people, for example, have found that incorporating an exercise ball into one’s yoga practice can create additional benefits. Exercise balls have many applications, and have been used for physical rehabilitation for years, but now it is being incorporated into a wide variety of different exercise programs, including traditional yoga practices.
Stability balls are popular for many different types of abdominal exercises, including stomach crunches. However, stability balls are also gaining popularity for other exercises as well. Because the body is made unstable by the stability ball, your core abdominal muscles are forced to work harder in order to keep the body remaining upright. You get a more complete workout as a result of using the ball in this manner.
Adapting a yoga practice into a yoga stability ball exercise is actually pretty simple. What you have to do is assume all of your traditional poses but while either sitting on or leaning against the exercise ball. Sometimes the yoga poses will be made easier as a result of using the stability ball, but other exercises will become more difficult. As a result of this practice, you will increase your muscle strength. You can also help to relieve stress because concentrating to achieve difficult poses can result in clearing your mind.
Yoga practice on a stability ball is not for everyone, and therefore while some people absolutely swear by it, some people do not prefer the practice. But it is well worth trying, especially to see if yoga stability ball practice can benefit you. Just remember that not all stability balls are created equal, so make sure that you choose the right size, the right material and the right manufacturer before you engage in yoga ball practice. You need to make sure that the stability ball that you buy is the right size for your body and your weight to get the most out of your workout. You should also probably use less than full air pressure when beginning, as it allows you to keep your stability a little better while you are learning how to handle the ball as part of your yoga practice.
